Mayweather Mayweather was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Nevada at about 1:45 a.m. ET, the Review-Journal reported, citing police. Police had sought Mayweather for questioning Thursday about a domestic battery report filed by Josie Harris, his ex-girlfriend who recanted a similar claim in 2005, police and his lawyer had said. FRANKFURT, Germany — Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is predicting a quick knockout in his rematch with Nigerian fighter Samuel Peter on Saturday. Klitschko says he is a much better fighter than he was five years ago when he was sent to the canvas three times before beating Peter in an unanimous decision. Peter is challenging the Ukrainian holder of the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belts and is equally confident of a quick victory. “It was one of the most difficult and important fights I had at the time,” Klitschko said of the bout in Atlantic City five years ago. “It was a milestone in my career.” “But what doesn’t kill me, only makes me harder,” he said. “I’ve become much more harder over the years and much more consistent in implementing my game plan of how to control a rival.” The Klitschko brothers remain a big draw in their adopted homeland of Germany despite an often unspectacular cautious style. The fight at Frankfurt’s soccer stadium is …
More Trouble for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Friday September 10, 2010 Last week it was a profanity-filled video rant that was characterized by many as both racist and homophobic. This week it s alleged domestic battery. What s going on with Floyd Mayweather Jr. ? Las Vegas police want to question Mayweather regarding a report filed by Josie Harris, the mother of three of Mayweather’s children, who claims the undefeated boxer attacked her. Harris made a similar claim in 2003, but later testified she had lied because she was angry at Mayweather for seeing another woman. Harris may or may not be lying again, but Floyd has no one to blame but himself for most of his troubles. He’s got all the talent in the world but continues to make bad decisions … including not fighting Manny Pacquiao for a big pile of money. Mayweather likes to brag about his wealth and probably thinks he’s got enough to last him the rest of his life. Not if he keeps making bad decisions. Pretty Boy may want …
LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas police say they’re seeking boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. for questioning about a domestic battery complaint by his ex-girlfriend. Officer Barbara Morgan says detectives want to get Mayweather’s account of what happened before deciding whether he will face a criminal battery domestic violence charge. Morgan says the 33-year-old Mayweather wasn’t at a southwest Las Vegas house when officers responded to the woman’s complaint a little after 5 a.m. Thursday. Morgan says the woman alleges Mayweather hit her during an argument. Morgan didn’t identify the woman by name. Officer Bill Cassell says the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not described as serious. “More enduringly than any other sport, wrestling teaches self-control and pride. Some have wrestled without great skill – none have wrestled without pride.” – Dan Gable It was his pride that initially stopped him from tapping. Under two minutes into the third round, he was caught in a deep armbar by fellow UFC lightweight Evan Dunham. As his opponent wrenched back on his prone right arm, he hesitated to tap. He was not ready to admit this defeat. After a few excruciating looking seconds, he finally relented and the fight was over, but he saved himself from a needless injury to fight another day. That is the lowest point of Efrain Escudero’s mixed martial arts career; the rest of it is a highlight reel of victories of a wrestler turned fighter from the past four years, including a win five months after his loss to Dunham.
Four of the top bantamweights in the world — Vic Darchinyan, Yonnhy Perez, Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares — will be part of a single-elimination tournament on Showtime, which finalized the event Wednesday, promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com. The semifinals will take place in Leon, Mexico, on Dec. 11. Darchinyan, the junior bantamweight champion, who is staying at bantamweight after winning a fight in the division in May, will face Mares in the main event. Perez will defend his 118-pound title in a mandatory rematch against former titlist Joseph Agbeko in the co-feature. The winners are slated to meet in the first quarter of 2011 or early in the second quarter, Shaw said. Shaw, who promotes Darchinyan and Perez, said the tournament, which has been in the works for a couple of months, was finalized during an afternoon conference call. “It’s a very exciting night of fights for a great year-ending card on Showtime,” Shaw said. “Time to see who the real 118-…

The good news is that ESPN will be airing the fight live at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN3.com, the network s streaming video website. There will also be a same-day taped broadcast on ESPN Deportes at 8 p.m. ET, as well as a 4:30 p.m. ET replay Sunday, Sept. 12 on ESPN. Comments (0) See All Posts Share
