Britain’s Amir Khan to defend WBA light welterweight title against American Paulie Malignaggi
LONDON — Amir Khan of Britain will defend his WBA light-welterweight title against American challenger Paulie Malignaggi on May 15 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Khan (22-1, 16 KOs) won the title from Andreas Kotelnik and defended it against Dmitriy Salita in December.
The silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics will be fighting for the first time in the United States after splitting with veteran British promoter Frank Warren to sign with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this year.
Malignaggi, a former IBF champion, will be fighting in his hometown.
